Pupillage at Crown Office Chambers

Why choose us?

Crown Office Chambers is a leading commercial and civil set with a reputation for high-quality advice and advocacy. We work in the fields of construction, health and safety, insurance and reinsurance, personal injury, product liability, professional negligence, property damage and sport. We are consistently ranked in the two main legal directories (Chambers & Partners, Legal 500) and our members are recognised as leading individuals in their fields.

Individual members are regularly nominated for Leading Junior and Leading Silk awards, recently winning Professional Discipline Junior of the Year (2018 C&P UK Bar Awards) and PI & Clin Neg Junior of the Year (2019 Legal 500 UK Awards). Chambers has won the Chambers & Partners Health & Safety Set of the Year Award 3 years in a row and it was voted Chambers of the Year at the British Claims Awards 2018. It was also recently nominated for set, silk and junior of the year in construction and energy (2018 Legal 500 UK Awards).

We offer you a well-structured and rewarding pupillage that will give you experience across a range of practice areas. Pupillage is undertaken in a friendly and supportive environment and you are fully involved in the day to day life of Chambers.

What to expect

Pupils sit with two pupil supervisors in their first six months and one in their second, but are likely to work with several members of chambers practising in different fields of work over the course of the year. Chambers also organises a series of advocacy training sessions. Our pupils appear in court regularly during their second six. You are on your feet handling applications and small trials in the county courts, with ample opportunity to develop your advocacy skills.

Our pupillage award

Chambers offers up to 3 pupillages per year, each with an award of £65,000 (£55,000 plus £10,000 guaranteed earnings in your second six). Part of the award may be paid during your BPTC year.

All pupils are taken on in the expectation that they will be offered tenancy provided they meet performance standards during pupillage.

Application

The deadline for October 2020 pupillage applications is midnight on the 5th February 2019. We will consider “year early” applications (for October 2021) by the same closing date.
