John Stevenson main areas of practice are clinical negligence, insurance and professional negligence. Other significant areas of work are arbitration, commercial law, construction and personal injury. He practises in the Queen’s Bench and Chancery divisions.
Within these specialisations he has specific areas of expertise:
As chairman of a community hospital he has a particular understanding of NHS and General Medical Practice administration.
He has appeared for Highway Authorities for many years and regularly addresses conferences concerned with highways maintenance. As a result he has considerable knowledge of highways engineering issues and an understanding of the challenges faced by Highways Authorities.
He has a lifelong interest in and experience of horses which is of primary relevance to equestrian personal injuries cases and veterinary claims.
Insurance & Reinsurance
John acts both for and against insurers in substantial claims in cases involving fraud, fire, property damage and the construction of insurance policies.
He has also taught insurance law to both under and post graduates.

Personal Injury
John has conducted some of the most substantial personal injury claims of the last twenty years for both defendants and claimants. He has appeared in landmark leading cases.

Professional Liability
John has represented members of most professions both in litigation and disciplinary proceedings. He has conducted many major, multi million pound, clinical negligence claims and regularly represented solicitors on the instructions of the Solicitors’ Indemnity Fund: he was on their list of preferred counsel. He represents both complainants and doctors in the General Medical Council.
