Crown Office Chambers feature in three of The Lawyer’s Top 20 cases of 2025
We are delighted to announce that members of chambers are featured in three of The Lawyer’s Top 20 cases of 2025.
The cases are:
One Hyde Park v Laing O’Rourke Construction South Limited
The Claimant, One Hyde Park Limited, claims from Laing O’Rourke over £50 million as damages for breach of contract arising from defects in the construction of One Hyde Park, a major luxury residential and retail complex located in Knightsbridge, London. The principal defect comprises widespread corrosion damage sustained by the chilled water pipework throughout the property, necessitating its complete removal and replacement. The trial is listed for 4 weeks commencing in late February 2025.
Andrew Rigney KC and Charles Pimlott act for One Hyde Park Ltd, instructed by Stephenson Harwood.
The Pan-NOx Emissions Group Litigation
One of the largest ever group actions in England and Wales, this litigation involves highly contested allegations by 1.8 million claimants against all leading car manufacturers and hundreds of car dealerships.
The claims relate to allegations that diesel vehicles sold widely to consumers contained what are referred to as “prohibited defeat devices” within the meaning of the EU Emissions Regulation 715/2007. Those allegations are strongly denied. The proceedings involve complex technical issues concerning the design and operation of diesel engines, and multiple different causes of action. A 10-week trial of technical and legal issues is listed in the High Court in October 2025.
Alex Antelme KC, David Myhill, Richard Sage and Frederick Simpson are instructed by Signature Litigation on behalf of Renault.
The Military Deafness Litigation
Listed for trial before Garnham J in the High Court in October for 10 weeks.
Approximately 5,000 current or former members of the Armed Forces claim damages for hearing loss alleged to have been caused by exposure to noise during their military service (e.g. weapons, explosives, armoured vehicles, aircraft).
The litigation, which features evidence from two of the leading experts in the field of noise-induced hearing loss (Prof. Mark Lutman and Prof. Brian Moore), will address many of the most contentious medical and quantum questions in deafness claims.
David Platt KC and Peter Houghton are for the defendant Ministry of Defence, instructed by Keoghs.
