Acquittal in fatal driving trial
Lucy Wright instructed by Sarah Valentine and Lauren Slater of Eversheds Sutherland, secured the acquittal of a Gas smart-meter Engineer who had been accused of causing death by careless driving.
The proceedings arose out of a fatal collision between a pedestrian and a company vehicle being driven by the Defendant. The accident had happened whilst the Defendant was turning into the Depot from a residential side road.
At trial, the Prosecution and Defence cases relied heavily on the presentation and examination of extensive expert evidence to address the Prosecution contention that the collision was capable of being avoided.
Following a week long trial at Bristol Crown Court the Jury unanimously acquitted the Defendant and a defence order for costs was awarded.
