Article 2 Engaged and Neglect found in Medical Inquest
The Area Coroner for Essex has handed down her conclusion in the long running case of Laura- Jane Seaman.
The case has attracted considerable media attention after the Coroner found several gross failings of basic care, ultimately holding that Laura-Jane’s death was avoidable and contributed to by neglect.
Suzanne White, head of clinical negligence at Leigh Day, said:
“The family welcomes the decision by the coroner to have deemed this an Article 2 inquest given the many failures amongst multiple disciplines and levels of seniority involved in Laura-Jane’s care. In the collective experience of the family’s legal team, this is one of the only inquests involving clinical decision making that has been found to involve the state and engage Article 2. This demonstrates the seriousness of the failings in Laura-Jane’s care and the grave risk to others if changes are not made.”
Leigh Day have thanked Harry Lambert “for providing excellent advocacy, support and kindness to the family”.
