Jason Evans-Tovey and Hamish Fraser successful in civil fraud claim in the Chancery Division
Yesterday, Andrew Lenon KC (sitting as a High Court Judge of the Chancery Division) handed down judgment in a complex, investment-related civil fraud.
A copy of the Judgment can be found here.
The Claimants were a group of international angel investors. Following a 13-day trial, they successfully proved that they had been induced by numerous fraudulent misrepresentations to invest in a tech start-up promising innovative marketing software. The Judge found that the Defendant founder and CEO had made a series of misrepresentations including about the functionality of the company’s technology, its actual customers, and in respect of the company’s financial forecasts.
The findings were based on a number of admissions extracted from the Defendant during 3 days of cross-examination, after a careful review of many thousands of documents.
Jason and Hamish are grateful to their clients, Ms Groen, Mr Lane, and Mr Woods (who instructed them on a direct access basis) for their hard work and perseverance throughout the claim.
