Charlotte Jones appears in Supreme Court, concerning secondary victim claims
The Supreme Court will today start hearing the three conjoined appeals in the cases of Paul, Polmear and Purchase, to determine their appeals from the Court of Appeal last year, which dismissed their claims. The issue is whether an individual can make a claim for psychiatric injury caused by witnessing the death of or other horrifying event involving a close relative as a result of earlier clinical negligence. The outcome is likely to affect other secondary victim cases and is keenly awaited.
Charlotte Jones is instructed by Alison Garrett from Bevan Brittan and Hannah Wallace from Browne Jacobson who act on behalf of the respondents.
