Director acquitted of Manslaughter
Dominic Kay KC, instructed by Ian Manners of Ashfords, represented H, the director of a commercial glazing company. H was prosecuted for gross negligence manslaughter after one of his company’s workers fell to his death from an unprotected edge of a scaffolding platform upon which a team of men was working at Cribbs Causeway, Bristol in 2018. On 25th January 2022, a jury at Bristol Crown Court took only three hours of deliberations to acquit H of manslaughter. The company (N), represented by Malcolm Galloway, also instructed by Ashfords, had earlier pleaded guilty to a breach of s2 of the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. The sentencing for that offence and H’s linked s37 offence is expected to take place next month.
