Claire Toogood obtains committal order for immediate imprisonment after exaggerated claim against the NHS
Acting on behalf of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, on 11 February 2021, Claire Toogood obtained an order for an immediate 6 month custodial sentence against Linda Metcalf at Leeds District Registry. Griffiths J noted that the Defendant’s dishonesty was sustained relentlessly over a period of years and she was attempting to steal money from the NHS for her own benefit. She claimed compensation in excess of £5.7m, alleging that she was unable to leave her house without assistance, when in fact her mobility was unrestricted and she had travelled abroad on numerous holidays.
