Inquest finds Whirlpool tumble dryer is the cause of fatal fire
Assistant Coroner David Lewis today handed down his verdict in the inquest touching upon the deaths of Bernard Hender and Doug McTavish. Giving a narrative conclusion he held that:
“On the balance of probabilities the fire was caused by an electrical fault in the tumble dryer in the laundry room of the flat… The other potential explanations for this fire were all properly considered but were shown by the evidence to be highly improbable”.
Harry Lambert of Crown Office Chambers represented the Families and survivor Mr Lloyd Jones who, in the face of denials by Whirlpool, had long maintained that the dryer was the cause of the fire.
Harry Lambert is instructed by Thomas Jervis at Leigh Day.
