Health and Safety

Chambers is consistently rated as a ‘Leading Set’ in Health & Safety work by The Legal 500, with the team recognised in the latest edition as being "head and shoulders above the majority of barristers" in this specialised area of law.

The Health & Safety team consists of several leading Queen’s Counsel together with a large, experienced and committed team of highly regarded junior counsel. The team is able to provide effective representation by way of specialist advocacy and advice, and members are recognised as "pragmatic, sensible and technically astute" by Chambers & Partners 2008, in which the Health & Safety team is recommended.

The team’s experience includes cases concerning construction, engineering and building operations (falls from height, structural collapse, injuries/fatalities to employees/public), machinery and vehicular accidents, workplace accidents (factories, warehouses, agricultural), cases concerning electricity and electrocutions, dangerous substances, the transportation/storage of radioactive and/or toxic material and prosecutions relating to risk assessment, accident reporting and non-compliance with notices. In many cases, considerable value is added by Chambers’ experience and reputation as a leading set in accident & industrial disease litigation.

Regulatory Expertise

In addition to the specific area of Health & Safety, Chambers provides first class advice and representation to a wide range of clients on regulatory matters. The strength and depth of the Regulatory Law team has established Crown Office Chambers as one of the foremost sets in this field.

Members of Chambers provide comprehensive and practical advice to those charged with regulatory offences and detailed knowledge and understanding of the law ensures clients receive clear advice on pre-trial procedures, plea and mitigation.

Regulatory work undertaken includes inquests and inquiries, environmental and planning regulation, consumer protection (trade marks, counterfeiting), product & food safety, licensing (including entertainment, liquor and firearms), fire control and marine regulation (trawler operations, logbook/landing declaration offences).
