Practice

Rebecca has experience in all core areas of Chambers' work, specialising in construction, professional negligence, insurance and general commercial litigation. In addition to drafting and advisory work, she has considerable experience of appearing as advocate in the County Courts and of applications, procedural hearings and trials in the High Court (particularly the Technology and Construction Court). She has also appeared in the Court of Appeal and in mediations. She has experience of working abroad in the Republic of Ireland.

In addition to experience of adjudications, domestic construction contracts and general commercial building disputes, her construction experience includes:

  • Proceedings before a Dispute Adjudication Board in a very substantial claim against the Employer for delay and expense arising out of the construction of the Dublin Port Tunnel.
  • A large retail development
  • A major contract for the supply and commissioning of meter reading equipment in the Republic of Ireland
  • Cases concerning tree-root induced subsidence.

She has experience of a range of professional negligence cases, particularly those against construction professionals. She is currently involved in a claim against the designers of a major transport project in South London. Rebecca is listed in the Legal 500 (2009) as a leading junior for professional negligence.

Rebecca has also advised and litigated cases concerning insurance, general contractual disputes, claims arising out of sales of goods and services and claims for property damage. She acted as Junior Counsel for the successful Defendant in a substantial claim arising out of fire damage to a large warehouse and was involved in the drafting of some of the Claimants' quantum claims arising out of the Buncefield explosion.

She has experience in regulatory work under the Registered Homes Act 1984 and the Care Standards Act 2000. She successfully represented the appellant providers in Jeeawon v ESCC, and Bhatnagar v National Care Standards Commission (the last appeal to the Registered Homes Tribunal) as junior counsel. In both the respondent's case was abandoned or struck out in the course of the respondent's evidence. She also successfully acted as junior counsel for the appellant providers in Bhatnagar v CSCI.
